Hyundai Challenges Toyota in the Van Market with Staria Load

Will Hyundai’s Staria Load be the new king of the van market?

Hyundai has taken on the challenge of competing with Toyota’s HiAce in the van market by introducing a bumper stock of Staria Load work vans. With a significant increase in sales of 2.5-3.5 tonne vans this year, Hyundai aims to break through the market dominated by Toyota. Supply constraints have been a major issue in the van market, but Hyundai is confident that its Staria Load model, with its impressive features and ample supply, will give them an edge.

According to the latest VFACTS figures, Toyota’s HiAce leads the van market with 829 sales last month, followed by Hyundai’s Staria Load at 329 units and the LDV G10/V80 at 300.

Year to date sales show Toyota in the lead with 2660 units, followed by LDV G10/V80 at 930 units and Staria at 802.

Other players in the segment include Ford Transit Custom, Mercedes-Benz Vito, and Renault Trafic.

Hyundai’s Staria Load model is well-stocked, with 944 units in dealer stock, 210 units in compound, and 689 units on the water, providing almost six months’ supply at the current sales rate.

The Staria Load offers better fuel economy, longer service intervals, and a heavier tow rating compared to the HiAce.

One significant difference between the two models is the Staria Load’s front-wheel drive, which may be a deal breaker for some buyers who prefer rear-wheel drive for towing.

Hyundai’s Staria Load replaced the iLoad and features a new design and Santa Fe underpinnings, including a powerful 2.2-liter turbo-diesel engine with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Hyundai offers various variants of the Staria Load, including a blind van, two-, three-, and five-seat variants, as well as limited-edition models with additional features.

The base Staria Load comes equipped with a range of features, including smart cruise control, driver attention warning, and SmartSense advanced safety features.

A Premium variant is also available, with added features such as a 10.25-inch supervision instrument cluster, LED headlights, and a smart power tailgate.

The Staria Load is offered in different colors, including Abyss Black, Graphite Gray, and Moonlight Blue.

It achieved a five-star safety rating in ANCAP testing.

Hyundai aims to tap into the growing trend of replacing commercial vehicles by offering the Staria Load at drive away pricing starting from $49,490 until the end of the current financial year.
