First thing they didnt mention. Dont admit that you were speeding to the policeman. IE state that you were doing the speed limit clearly. If you dont, they really dont need a reading at all, they can then use your admitance. wink.gif

When i got caught speeding, when he asked me if i knew the speed limit, i sed "70km isn't it?" (actually was 60km and i knew that!), i didn't get off the fine but was worth the try.... they just sed to me "no it is 60, didn't you see the signs just down the road" (doh, smart ass cops)....

then they tried giving me a defected vehicle notice becoz my front park lights (i have a gemi) had orange condoms over the light bulbs so the light was orange (so in other words saying that it wasn't something very noticeable, and wasn't something that was distracting at all... basically they made a mountain out of a mole hill)... they just let me off with a warning but told me i had too take them off so i got home, opened the park lights, and took the condoms off!!!

I just couldn't believe they made a big deal out of nothing with my park lights!!!! damn coppers!!!

Hey man, i think 'ignorance is not an exception' or somthing. It's like saying 'i didn't know it was illegal to steal so i stole'. You would have been better off saying that you thought you were doing 60

Good website. thumbsup.gif

I passed a police officer one day going 55 around a long bend...The police officer saw me, and because he passed I think nothing of it. (btw it was a 50 zone)...(if your gonna gimme crap over doing 55 in a 50zone dont bother I know I was speeding but I was in total control and didnt mean to speed...everyone does it)

5Min later I see the red and blue lights and pulled over. I knew the rules so I asked the police officer why I was pulled over. He asked me what speed I was doing around the corner and I said I wasnt to sure (not admitting to any speed EVER), he asked me what the speed was an I said it was a 50zone.

He then started writing a ticket and I started to argue. I got out of the car (they dont like it when you do that), and argued wheres the proof. He said "I saw you going around the corner too fast" and I told him that unless he had a radar reading or that him and another cop in the car witnessed me speeding for over 400m then he couldnt do shit to me.

He then procedes to lecture me about speeding and said he "you ARE aware that children and pedestrians walk along here all the time" and "had to do a 100km/h to catchup to me" and I asked him WHY you were doing a 100km/h in a 50 zone to catchup whne there were pedestrians around. biggrin.gif

By that time he was quite pissed off and he told me my car was going to be put on as a VOI (vehicle of interest), and I said "I already am probably because I drive an import, therefore I am a hoon". He left it at that and told me he would look out for me on the road.

Anyway sorry for that long story, but the moral is, never admit you were speeding, the cops can only write a ticket unless they have a reading or have followed you for 400m with 2 cops in the car to witness it and never take flack from a cop. You are innocent until proven guilty.

Hey did u know cops have a microphone at their belt buckle? About 1 cm diameter & u can only c it when you're standing i.e. when u get pulled over & the cop has their dick 2 your face u can't c it. The moral? Don't admit 2 any speed when u sitting in your car cos you're speaking directly into the recorder

i have been booked for speeding once, i was going around a long bend and he was coming the opposite direction, then he chucked a u-bop and pulled me over
i was doing 112 in a 100 zone, but i was on my P's and in NSW that means speed limit of 90km...
When he pulled me over he asked me if i wanted to see a radar reading that was in the car but i said no..
maybe i shoulda...

But if you own a proton satria... You dont really have a choice do you? Speeding is out of the question (unless a long down hill run-up is available).

you my friend are a knob. Actuall you are probably one of those stupid fuckwits that sit on 80 on the high way, too busy staring at your speedo to realise what is going on around you. You should be given a good kick up the back side.

i'm with poida - if you gonna stare at your speedo to be doing 59.5km in the 60km zone you should be shot as it is people like you that i have had near accidents with cause you can't keep in your own f$#king lane

it is easy to go 5km over without realising but when 20/30km over then you gotta expect the fuzz getting nasty when they catch you - they WILL catch you...

thing that gets me is people like my old house mate
--> he drove this poor little camry so hard EVERYWHERE at TOP SPEED(sounded like a piston would jump out the block at anytime) and he has not lost a SINGLE point from his licence
-->yet a modified car owner looses points for the smallest thing and the slightest speeding offence
-->should a near accident occur 9/10 times it is a modified car with a bit more power that gets out of it and saves both asses from possible impact

/rant

soz for going off topic a little but this seemed to be the place to vent

so tru so tru -- the law states one thing, butit is not enforced

jun, i beleive you about the two cops 400m thing, and i have heard it many times

however, i have yet to ever see a piece of legislation that says so, so as far as im concerned it is hearsay, which in other words, means NOTHING

also heard that a cop who has been on the force over 5 years doesnt need a reading bla bla bla cos it is his trusted word versus the wrod of the hoon. whether it is true or not i dont know

but seriously, in regards to needing two cops to follow for a certain distance ---

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE POST SOME FORM OF LEGISLATION REGARDING THIS RULE!

that way i can print it out, and carry it in my glovebox for next time the po po's pull me over for dirving a nice car and APPARENTLY speeding, or when they claim some ridiculous excessive speed, rather than 5 - 10km/h over

Has anyone had any luck contesting tickets in court?? Please tell your story.

Now according to the law, a police officer does not have to show you proof of the speed you were doing. There are 3 ways (basically) a cop can judge that you are speeding:
1. camera/radar gun
2. follow speed - where police officer follows you and matches their speedo to yours
3. estimation - yep a cop can be standing on the side of the road, dipping his donut in his coffee and estimate the speed you pass him at, and book you.

1. camera/radar gun - you should ask to see readout in this case. Also if correct placement guidelines have not been followed (eg. still in 60 zone before a school zone), you can challenge. According to RACQ, people have gotten off by proving the camera log-books weren't filled out properly, the + or - signs were around the wrong way on the photo (thus can't say whether travelling away or towards camera), and incorrect placement before 40 zone...

2. follow speed - there are guidelines for how this must be carried out - cop *should* follow for 200m. Speedo in cop car must have been calibrated within the last 60 days. And yes an officer can be alone in the vehicle.

3. estimation - Not sure on details of this, haven't sussed out.

Note that police guidelines state that infringements issued under follow speed and estimation are most likely to fail in court.

And yes, they can have a tape recorder going the whole time and not tell you - so don't admit to anything. When you elect to go to court you can access the transcript of the tape recording under freedom of information law.
