Mitsubishi Triton: Aussie-Proofed for the Land Down Under

Looking for a ute that can handle Australia’s tough conditions while delivering a comfortable ride? Look no further than the Australian-tweaked Mitsubishi Triton.

The sixth-generation Mitsubishi Triton has been fine-tuned for the rugged Australian terrain. Mitsubishi Motors Australia Limited (MMAL) has worked with the brand’s global research and development team to create a bespoke suspension setup that offers an SUV-like ride and handling. This local development process, which included testing over 100 suspension combinations, took place at the former Holden proving ground in Victoria. The result is a ute that can handle Australia’s tough conditions while delivering improved performance and increased comfort.

Traditionally, utes have been designed solely as workhorses, but with the increasing demand for versatility, the new-generation Triton aims to provide customers with a drive experience similar to a good SUV while retaining its off-road capabilities.

MMAL project manager, Tony Dorrington, led the Australian validation process and focused on enhancing the Triton’s agility, responsiveness, and ride comfort.

The local development process involved extensive testing and tweaking of the suspension to reduce impact harshness, improve body control, and enhance steering.

Four different front and rear suspension configurations were established before Mitsubishi executives from Japan evaluated and selected the final setup for the Australian models.

In addition to the unique suspension setup, the electronic power steering (EPS) tune has been improved to enhance low-speed maneuverability.

Mitsubishi prioritized Australia as a major market and worked closely with the MMAL team to ensure the Triton’s dynamics would meet the demands of Australian road conditions.

The new Triton, which offers improved technology, safety features, performance, and carrying capacity, will be priced higher than its predecessor.
